Nairobi Governor Johson Sakaja has responded after an uproar by a section of netizens over his 'Welcome Back' billboards erected on some highways in Nairobi.

A section of Kenyans questioned the source of funds for the billboards before the county boss intimated that he used his own money to erect them.

"Lakini Sakaja Johnson even as we continue supporting you, just stop those cheap PR stunts. I hope you used your own money to pay for those "Welcome Back" billboards," a tweep stated.

Sakaja responded by saying, "Yes I used my own money. You may not like it, many appreciate it."

The billboards had the words, "Welcome back, Prosperous 2023! Let's make Nairobi work," and have been spotted in parts of Waiyaki Way, Thika Super Highway and Mombasa Road.

They have the county boss's image and that of his deputy, Njoroge Muchiri, on them.

According to a section of Kenyans on Twitter, the money used for the billboards could have been directed to other projects to better the city.

However, some netizens said that it was a warm welcome for Nairobians who had left for festivities upcountry.
