Ngunjiri is one of the few UDA MPs from the Mt Kenya region who lost in the August 9 elections to Jubilee party candidates.

Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has now revealed that he declined to take a Cabinet Secretary position that President William Ruto had offered him.

Speaking to K24 TV on Thursday, Ngunjiri said he deemed the CS position a bit heavy for him and instead asked for a lighter job.

He further divulged that it is not a must for him to be in government considering that he was not born in it.

"It is not a must for me to be in government because we were not born in government to die in government. The President had offered me to be a minister but I refused. I wanted a lesser seat," the MP said.

He lost to the current MP Irene Njoki.

During the K24 TV interview, the outspoken politician claimed that the circumstances that led to his loss left him doubting the unity within the party.

Ngunjiri appeared to renew his war with Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika after he accused her of working with his opponent.

"That is why you are seeing more independent candidates, the number is going to be higher because the issue of the party is a big problem. Many people will go independent because they do not want to fight," he said.

"The same woman who was nominated to vie as a governor joined my rival and worked underground fighting me, what is the use of being in that party."

The MP was a vocal defender of President William Ruto ahead of the August 9 election and he is still one to date.

He has been swift in disparaging leaders attacking the president even as he defends the Kenya Kwanza government from criticism.

He fell out with Former President Uhuru Kenyatta who backed ODM leader Raila Odinga for the president even as he remained loyal to President Ruto.
