Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has issued a directive on Junior Secondary School uniforms.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has directed learners transiting to Junior Secondary to have different uniforms from that of lower primary learners.

Speaking on Monday, January 16, at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), CS Machogu stated that the final decision on the type of the new uniforms will be rendered by the Board of Management (BoMs) of each school.

“At this particular level because it is secondary, the uniform will not be the same and each board of management will make a decision of the colour and the type of uniform that students will be required to put on,” Machogu directed.

CS Machogu also stated that parents will bear the responsibility of buying the uniforms for the students.

He also directed headteachers not to charge any fees for Grade 7 leaders in public schools.

“We worked on a figure which is closer to that of senior secondary school and the President accepted,” Machogu said.

The Junior Secondary learners will report to school on January 30, 2023. Form 1 students on the other hand will report from February 6, 2023 to February 13, 2023.
