President Ruto had directed all farmers to be registered through their Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that only registered farmers will access subsidised fertilizers offered by the government.

In a statement on Friday, January 20, Gachagua revealed that registered farmers will access the subsidized fertilizers through an e-voucher system.

The second in command stated that the government will do a pilot exercise in 12 counties, targeting 2.1 million farmers.

“Only registered farmers can access the subsidised fertilizers through an e-voucher system for traceability and full accountability. The pilot counties include Migori, Kakamega, Bomet, Bungoma, Kericho, Nandi, Narok, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot and Nakuru,” Gachagua tweeted.

He added, “This pilot phase targets about 2.1 million farmers in 12 counties. This action of the Kenya Kwanza Administration under H.E President William Ruto to subsidise agricultural production aims at bringing down the cost of living and making Kenya food secure.”

His statement comes days after President Ruto asked Kenyan farmers to register themselves through their Assistant Chiefs.

“I want to ask all farmers to be registered because we want to know the numbers of farmers and those who want fertilizers so that we can plan as a government how they will get the fertilizers,” President Ruto said on January 13.
