Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has warned Kenyans against abandoning the set guidelines while travelling upcountry for the Christmas festivities.
Speaking on Sunday, Kagwe noted that Nairobi has been recording high numbers of positive Covid-19 cases, adding that those travelling home should be careful not to take the virus to the elderly who stay in upcountry.
"Don't take the virus from Nairobi to upcountry where our elderly parents are, we can enjoy the holidays where we are and ensure that we don't spread the disease further," Kagwe noted.
Addressing Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators, Kagwe noted that violation of set guidelines will not be tolerated, adding that social distancing must be maintained.

He further noted that any vehicle for violating Covid-19 guidelines will be held till January 2021.
"Some drivers and touts may be guided by their greed and opt to ferry more passengers; we will not allow this as it will worsen the pandemic. Some matatu operators have forgotten to sanitize their passengers; drivers and other members of the crew. Most of the time they forget to put on face masks. This may get us back where we have come from in terms of Covid-19.
"It is my appeal as people celebrate Christmas and New Year, they should not abandon protocols given by the ministry of health to help contain the spread of Covid-19," he divulged.
Meanwhile, thousands of Kenyans have started trooping to their upcountry homes for the Christmas festivities. A quick look at bus terminuses in the city indicated that some saccos had increased fares in a bid to capitalize on the festive season.
