President William Ruto on Wednesday, February 1 traveled to Mogadishu, Somalia to attend the Somalia-Frontline Summit as a part of the effort to deal with terrorism in the Horn of Africa region.

President Ruto urged his Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Somali counterparts to unite in the war against terrorism.

He noted that the region must adopt a common strategy for combating terrorism and associated criminality.

“We must dismantle terror networks and financial support infrastructure; this must be complemented by countering radicalisation and the propagation of extremism,” Ruto said.

President Ruto urged Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti to improve their capacity in dealing with the extremism in the region.

“It is time to firmly commit to improve our overall capacity to intervene effectively.

 “This can be achieved by enhancing the complementary mobilisation of law enforcement, intelligence and financial resources,” Ruto said.

He also congratulated Somalia President Hassan Mohammud for his success in countering al Shabaab terrorists.

“We congratulate President Hassan Mohamud on this radical strategic turnaround and the success that is now evident in many parts of Somalia,” Ruto added.
