Police arrived at the scene moments later and recovered a pistol with 12 bullets

Drama ensued in the Ngara area in Nairobi after bodaboda operators disarmed a robber who was on a mission to reap where he did not sow.

The bodaboda operators are said to have been harangued by the increasing accusations of theft linked to them.

The suspected robber and his accomplice were riding a motorbike during their stealing mission.

Despite shooting in the air in a bid to warn the riders not to attack him, the suspected robber was cornered and lynched.

The gunman was part of a gang that had been attacking and robbing pedestrians along the Kolobot- Wangari Maathai Road junction on Saturday evening.

Police say the suspect was cornered after bodaboda operators got wind of his illegal activities in the area.

The bodaboda operators opted to give the man and his pillion passenger a chase. They were aboard a motorbike.

They caught up with the men a few meters ahead. A female pedestrian arrived at the scene and divulged that the men had earlier attacked her and taken her mobile phone.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said it was then that one of the gunmen drew the Czeska pistol and shot in the air to scare the riders.

One of the riders managed to grab the pistol from the suspect leading to his lynching.

Police arrived at the scene moments later and recovered a pistol with 12 bullets and the motorcycle the men were using.

One of the suspects who escaped lynching was arrested.
