Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria has denied claims that he is seeking to replace Mike Sonko following his impeachment last week.

Initial reports on a local daily indicated that Kuria was ready to resign from his parliamentary position in a bid to vie for the vacant post in the city-county.

However, Kuria has distanced himself from the remarks noting that they were taken out of context.

Meanwhile, a poster is already doing rounds on social media urging Nairobians to back Moses Kuria for the lucrative post.

Elsewhere, former Governor Mike Sonko on Monday moved to court contesting the decision by the Senate to uphold his impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly.

In his petition, Sonko seeks temporary orders stopping the new election set to be held in the next 60 days.

His petition comes a couple of hours after Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura was sworn-in as the acting governor until a by-election is conducted and a new governor elected in February 2021.

Speaking after his inauguration, Mutura vowed to restore sanity in Nairobi and end the budget impasse between the county government and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
