Onserio who was arrested on December 20 at a parking bay owned by Holy Family Basilica

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has dropped terror charges against journalist Laban-Cliff Onserio.

The DPP cited insufficient evidence while withdrawing the case.

Onserio's lawyer Ishmael Nyaribo on Monday said Kahawa Court magistrate Boaz Ombewa has marked the file as closed.

Onserio who was arrested on December 20 at a parking bay owned by Holy Family Basilica had not taken a plea to the charges.

An altercation involving the journalist had occurred at the parking prompting the church's guard to call the police.

On arrival, the police discovered a stun grenade in his car leading to his arrest.

Though not very lethal, tun grenade has the potential of causing injuries caused by the blast or shrapnel and could even lead to death.

At the time, the journalist worked at the Standard Media Group as the chief of staff.

It is not clear yet whether he is still an employee of the Mombasa road-based media group since reports indicated that he had been locked out of the offices.

Onserio is a former Deputy Director of Communications at the State House’s Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) and also worked at NTV.
