President William Ruto on Thursday, February 23 held a meeting with Maasai community leaders from Kajiado, Narok, Samburu, Laikipia, and Marsabit counties at State House.

In a statement after the meeting, President Ruto said that the banditry and cattle rustling in northern Kenya must end.

"Banditry must end. It is denying children the chance to go to school and holding back the region and the people,” said President Ruto.

The Head of State also promised that the Maasai community would benefit from the government’s investments in water.

He noted that there are advanced plans to build one hundred mega and one thousand small dams for irrigation, livestock and domestic use.

"To coordinate this effectively, the Ministry of Water is holding meetings with each county to identify their priorities," Ruto said.

The President further stated that the revival of the leather industry would transform the region. He noted that the leather industry has many opportunities for livestock keepers.

Some of the notable leaders who attended the meeting include; Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, Samburu Governor Jonathan Leleliit, Patrick OleNtutu of Narok EALA MP David Ole Sankok and Nominated MP Peris Tobiko.
