Speaking on Wednesday during an interview with TV 47, Odinga noted that since the IEBC is hiring clerks to help with the verification, the process should be completed by around January 10, 2021.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has divulged that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should not take more than two weeks to verify the 4.4 million signatures presented to it in support of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview with TV 47, Odinga noted that since the IEBC is hiring clerks to help with the verification, the process should be completed by around January 10, 2021.

“Ile ya Ekuru Aukot hawakuandika hata clerk mmoja lakini walikagua masahihi. Sasa wamepewa pesa wakague, itachukua wiki mbili… (When IEBC was verifying Punguza Mizigo Initiative signatures, they did not hire a single clerk. Now they have money, the process should take only two weeks.),” he said.

Regarding the likely date of the BBI referendum, Odinga noted that if all goes well, Kenyan could vote in April 2021.

During the interview, Odinga urged Kenyans to support the BBI stating that it has good clauses that will help the local mwananchi.

He specifically mentioned the proposal seeking to increase revenue to counties noting that if passed, this will enhance service delivery and development across the country.

On whether he’ll vie in 2022, Odinga tight lipped stating that his focus is on the BBI referendum.
