A group of women who attended the international Women's Day celebrations at KICC brought the function to a standstill as they protested against Supreme Court ruling on LGBTQ.

Immediately after Gender and Affirmative Action Committee of the National Assembly Chair Ann Ng'ang'a finished her speech, the group started chanting "hatutaki", "hatutaki".

"As women where we are, your Excellency, we still continue to fight for our space," she said, addressing President William Ruto who was at the function.

"Especially now that we are told that men can marry men and women can marry women." 

It is that statement that pushed the crowd of women in chanting booing against the LGBTQ ruling.

Also present at the function was DP Rigathi Gachagua, Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Woman Representative Esther Passaris. 

CS Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action Aisha Jumwa and Gender PS Gender Veronica Nduva, Varoius MPs and MCAs. 

The Supreme Court ruling on LGBTQ has elicited sharp reactions among Kenyans. 

Political leaders have also been drawn into the debate with MPs vehemently opposing it. 

The Supreme Court ruled that while it was illegal to be an LGBTQ members, those who practice it should enjoy their right to association. 

President Ruto is yet to publicly pronounce himself on the matter.
