Chebukati exited IEBC on January 17 following the end of his six years tenure alongside commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye.

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has claimed that President William Ruto wants to appoint former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati as a Court of Appeal judge.

Speaking on Friday, March 10 in Migori, Junet alleged that Kenya Kwanza allied MPs have tabled a miscellaneous amendment bill in the National Assembly to increase Court of Appeal judges from thirty to seventy in a bid to accommodate Chebukati.

“Mimi nimeona jana nikiwa bunge wameleta kitu inaitwa miscellaneous amendment bill ambayo wanataka kuongeza judges wa Court of Appeal kutoka salasini mpaka sabini. Niliwauliza ni nani ako na kesi mingi namna hii wameniambia ya kwamba ati vile Chebukati ametangazia hawa results wanataka kumfanya awe Court of Appeal judge. Nani ako tayari kupeleka kesi kwa Chebukati? Junet posed.

In his farewell message, Chebukati mentioned the challenges he faced as a commission even as he explained how he managed to keep the boat sailing at the most difficult moment.

"I was appointed the chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on January 18, 2017, for a constitutional term of six years. Yesterday I completed my term. It has been an honour,” Chebukati said.

He added, "I exit contented that we gave it our best to this commission. We chartered and weathered storms that threatened the existence of the commission."
