Karua asked the DCI to apologise to Kenyans after sharing fake photos purporting they are of Azimio protesters.

Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua is among Kenyans castigating the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the photos it published on its social media handles.

The investigative body on Friday, March 24, shared a couple of photos of people believed to have caused chaos during protests organised on March 20 by the opposition.

Kenyans learned that some of the photos were captured as back as 2008, some having been taken in Burundi.

Reacting to it, Karua called on the DCI to apologise to Kenyans over the misinformation peddled on its platforms.

She suggested that the state agency posted the misleading photos with the intent to cause fear amongst those willing to partake in the protests.

"DCI Kenya and the National Police Service owe Kenyans an explanation and apology on this attempt to manipulate #MaandamanoMonday," she said.

She said that the DCI was among the agencies used by the state to brutalise protesters who she implied do not have any intent to cause chaos or destroy property.

Kenyans hit out at the agency accusing it of backing off on professionalism and instead choosing to be misused by the state.

The DCI is however yet to issue a statement over the matter.
