The National Police Service has issued a statement over abetting hired goons to cause mayhem during demonstrations.

The National Police Service (NPS) has refuted claims of aiding goons to cause mayhem during Azimio anti-government demonstrations.

In a statement via Twitter on Thursday, March 30, NPS said that the allegations are unfounded and are intended to cause fear among Kenyans.

“The National Police Service has noted with serious concern, a lot of propaganda circulating via social media amidst the ongoing Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance demonstrations in Nairobi, the latest being the falsehood that NPS is abeting hired goons to cause mayhem in Nairobi.

“We wish to bring to the attention of the General public that such unfounded and malicious claims are not only intended to cause unnecessary fear in the society but are also deliberate moves meant to tarnish the image of the National Police Service,” NPS stated.

The law enforcement agency also reiterated its commitment to serve and protect all Kenyans without fear of favor while upholding respect for human rights.

“We wish to reiterate our commitment to discharge our Constitutional mandate which is to serve and protect, without fear or favor, while adhering to the rule of law and utmost respect for human rights,” NPS added.
