The MP died on Wednesday, March 29 at Aga Khan Hospital where he was receiving treatment after being hit by a motorcycle along Mombasa Road.

Philip Mweteli, a boda boda rider, has been charged with killing Banisa Member of Parliament Kullow Maalim Hassan. 

Mweteli who appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu on Friday, March 31 denied knocking down Kullow at the South B area in Nairobi.

He also denied other charges of failing to report the accident to the police and driving a motorcycle without a license.

The accused was released on a Ksh 300,000 cash bail with an alternative bond of Ksh 500,000.

The news of his death was first shared by his colleague at the National Assembly Adan Keynan, the MP For Eldas.

"It is with great sorrow and profound sadness that I learn of the unfortunate demise of my friend and colleague, Banisa MP, Hon. Kullow Maalim Hassan, who passed away at Agha Khan Hospital.

"I share my deepest condolences with the family, friends and people of Banisa following this unfortunate loss and pray that Allah (SWT) will grant them sabr and comfort during this lowest moment. May Allah grant his soul Jannatul Firdaws. Amiin Amiin," he said in a tribute.

Kullow was first elected into parliament in 2017 and was serving his second term as a legislator.
