Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High school in Kakamega county has been closed indefinitely.

This follows the death of two students who are said to have developed infections as a result of consuming unsafe water and food. 

Nairobi Leo has learnt that 500 other students from the institution have developed an infection.

The students are said to have consumed intoxicated food and contaminated water.

Western Region Director of education Jared Obiero has confirmed the developments at the school.

He said the ministry of education is investigating the occurrences at the school. 

On Monday morning, Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale and Woman rep Elsie Muhanda toured the institution.

Health officers were also in their company.

Senator Khalwale has a daughter at the school.

They inspected water storage facilities as they assessed the state of affairs at the institution.
