The Police officer was captured on camera breaking and smashing the Azimio media vehicle before firing a teargas canister inside.

The Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has revealed that investigations regarding a plainclothed police officer who was caught on camera firing teargas into a media vehicle during Azimio anti-government protests are underway.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, April 4, at the Kenya School of Government, Koome stated that the officer will face the law if he is found guilty of the incident.

"A policeman breaking a window of the car? Regarding all officers, any issue of malpractice or misconduct brought to us is investigated and we take action. I received those complaints and they are being handled," he said.

At the same time, IG Koome apologized to journalists who were injured while covering the Azimio protests saying that it was not intentional but an accident.

"I want to assure our friends from the media that the attacks were not deliberately directed at them. We will continue working closely with you as we plan to incorporate you into some of our future operations," said Koome.

He added, "When you are in that kind of situation where teargas canisters are thrown, we could have injuries, we have no intentions of injuring any of you, you are fellow Kenyans but when the situation demands the constitution is very clear I have a duty to ensure that there is law and order in the country."

Koome further lauded Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga for calling off the protests noting that the police will now focus on preventing crime.
