National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah on Thursday held a meeting with the British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriot at his office.

In a statement on Friday, April 7, Ichung’wah disclosed that the meeting was about the prevailing political situation in the country.

The Kikuyu MP assured Marriot that the Kenya Kwanza government is committed to defusing political tensions by engaging in bipartisan talks with the opposition.

“I had a cordial engagement with the British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriot on Thursday. We discussed the country's prevailing political situation and the stability of the nation when she paid me a courtesy call in Parliament.

“In our talks, I assured Ms. Marriot of Kenya Kwanza's commitment to defusing the political tensions and following through with President William Ruto’s directive to engage in bipartisan talks with the opposition in reconstituting the electoral commission IEBC,” Ichung’wah stated.

He also reiterated Kenya Kwanza’s willingness to ensure the country remains stable even after talks with the opposition.

Marriot on her part expressed concerns about the country's political situation and urged for sanity and reason to prevail to ensure the country remains stable.
