Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was yet again in another expedition to Mt Kenya on Saturday, April 8.

A few months back, the deputy president was at the place for prayers.

He was first there in January, and returned in March.

This time, the deputy president was accompanied by his wife Dorcas Rigathi.

The duo trekked an 18km journey to the foot of Mt Kenya.

They traversed the woodland around before getting into the adjoining Kabaru forest in Kieni.

The deputy president marveled at the green vicinity, thanking God for the rains that have since been pounding the localities around the mountain.

Later in their journey, the couple interacted with farmers and herders who were already out to the fields with their livestock to graze.

"We thank God for the rains as the greenery of our heritage is evident; the roaring sound from River Sagana was soothing to our souls. We met enthusiastic farmers and livestock herders who were thankful to the Lord for the rains," said the deputy president.

Rigathi called on the locals to continue preserving the forest which he noted has been serving as water catchment.

The deputy president would not forego the attachment he has with the thick forest.

He said his father camped there with others as they faced off with the white colonialists.

The deputy president has always taken pride in being associated with freedom fighters who had set base at Mt Kenya Forest.

"My journey through the thick forest was very nostalgic; my late father and mother spent over 10 years in the same forest during the liberation struggle of driving away the white colonialists from our land," he recalled.

This came a day after the deputy president and his wife visited their aunt in Nyeri.
