Chris Wamalwa resigned after his appointment as a Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation

The Ford Kenya Party secretary general position has ignited sharp division among officials after former Kiminini member of parliament Chris Wamalwa resigned to take up the Ministry of Water Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) role.

The officials are divided on who between Tongaren MP John Chikati and Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi is best suited to replace Wamalwa.

Wanyonyi supporters argue that the party cannot have a party leader and secretary general from Bungoma County.

"The next secretary-general should be a person who can be trusted, someone who has never been in any party other than Ford Kenya. We present to you Hon. Ferdinand Wanyonyi as our next secretary general," the group said in a statement.

The group also feels that Wanyonyi has experience as he is serving his third term as a lawmaker compared to Chikati who is a first-timer.

Ford Kenya National youth league on Thursday endorsed Chikati for the position owing to his loyalty to the party and experience in leadership.

Ford Kenya national vice treasurer Margaret Wanjala has also endorsed Chikati saying that he is better placed to steer the party to a higher level.

“We believe that Chikati is better placed to steer this party to another level since he is vibrant. We call on other members to back him in this quest,” said Wanjala.
