Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated the Government's commitment to protecting the properties of Kenyans in the event the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance resume countrywide demonstrations. 

Gachagua who spoke during an Iftar with Eastleigh Business Community on Tuesday night at KICC said they will not allow business areas to be disrupted by the demos. 

He regretted that the first time protests were held, the business community in Eastleigh suffered losses.

He assured them that they will never allow that to happen again going forward.

"If they return to the streets as they are threatening, they will not be able to step into the CBD and business centres such as Eastleigh. The responsibility of the government is to protect businesses," he said.

"The government will not allow anybody to destroy property in this country." 

Ahead of bi-partisan talks, the DP hinted that the President and he might not be involved much as Kenya Kwanza leaders in parliament are up to the task. 

"Let the politics be done in parliament. The National Assembly leader of the Majority Kimani Ichung'wah is equal to the task and when they will need our help, we will intervene. Ours is to focus on business and the economy," he said.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance unveiled its 7-member team that will dialogue with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance after a PG meeting on Tuesday.

The seven will be led by Senate Majority Whip Boni Khalwae, Tharaka MP George Murugara, Nominated MP Essy Okenyuri, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Taita Taveta MP Lydia Haika, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei, and Eldas MP Adan Keynan.

The Kenya Kwanza members will now face Azimio who had already appointed a team of 7 to represent them in the 14-member committee.

The Azimio team includes Senators Edwin Sifuna, Ledama Ole Kina, Enock Wambua, MPs Amina Mnyanzi (Malindi), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), David Pkosing (Pokot South) and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda).
