Governor Sakaja wants the dignity of the departed restored.

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has restated his resolve to upgrade City Mortuary that has been in a sorry state for a while.

The county boss while sanctioning the improvements on the morgue said its facelift is aimed at giving dignity to the dead.

Beside the upgrade, the facility will be renamed Nairobi Funeral Home.

So far, new coolers have been fitted therein to enhance ace preservation of the bodies.

The governor had expressed displeasure with the manner in which bodies were being handled, thus the decision to standardize the morgue.

Sakaja refuted claims that plans were underway to privatise the facility situated in the Kibra Constituency.

On Saturday, April 15, he toured the facility to inspect the ongoing renovation works.

"Inspecting ongoing improvements at the City Mortuary (soon to be renamed The Nairobi Funeral Home) today. We must give our people dignity and we will.

Also. There’s no such thing as privatizing City Mortuary. It shall remain for the people and it will work," said Sakaja.

According to him, the piling and stacking of the bodies on each other deprived the deceased of their dignity which he now wants it restored.

Besides coolers, cold room doors and proper drainage have also been done.
