Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is temporarily out of service for local and international flights.

The closure follows an aborted take-off of a cargo plane after developing technical issues.

JKIA in a statement said for the safety of passengers, operations had to be called off until the matter is addressed.

"We would like to confirm that the runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been temporarily closed due to an aborted takeoff by a Cargo plane that developed technical issues this morning," JKIA said in a tweet.

"Our top priority is the safety of all passengers and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible. As a result of the runway closure, all incoming and outgoing flights have been temporarily suspended."

JKIA further regretted the inconvenience ad asked for patience and understanding as they resolve the matter.

Passengers who were bound to travel at this time of crisis have been asked to contact their respective airlines for re-scheduling of take-off time.

"We advise all passengers to contact their respective airlines for further information on the status of their flights," JKIA said.
