Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has disbanded the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital board after an expectant patient was mistreated in the facility.

In a statement on Monday, April 17, Governor Sakaja appointed Dorcas Kemunto as the new board chairperson, Dr. Bernad Gituma as the secretary, and Christopher Githinji as a member.

Others include; Susan Wanjiru Kamau, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Ronald Ngala Oniango, and Fridah Wambui Nduati.

Dr. Gituma will also take over as the Medical Superintendent replacing Dr, Emma Mutio who has been transferred to Pumwani Hospital as a specialist.

According to the Nairobi County health, wellness, and nutrition office, the patient had lower abdominal pains radiating to the back with increased intensity.

“The lady arrived at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital on Saturday, April 15 at 5.20 pm in the company of her relatives. The expectant mother complained of lower abdominal pains radiating to the back with increased intensity. The patient also complained that she could not feel regular baby movements,” a statement read in part.

The doctor on call recommended an ultrasound to check the baby’s heartbeat but found out that the baby had already died.

“The medical team and counsellors at the Mama Lucy Kibaki informed the patient and her relatives of the ultrasound results which revealed that the baby was already dead, “the statement added.
