County Police Commander David Mathiu cancelled the meeting saying, police officers have been deployed elsewhere.

Police in Murang'a have cancelled Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance town hall meeting that was to be held on Thursday in the county.

ODM leader Raila Odinga and former Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria were to lead the talks.

County Police Commander David Mathiu cancelled the meeting saying, police officers have been deployed elsewhere hence they will not be able to provide security.

Mathiu argued that the notice was to be served four days earlier for proper planning but the Raila Odinga-led coalition submitted it on Tuesday.

As a result, Mathiu said the meeting will not be allowed to take place.

Wa Iria on Tuesday said he will hold a meeting with ‘non-shareholders’  to give Kenyans a platform to give their input and demand their rights.

He said the ODM leader Raila and other top Azimio leaders will attend the meeting.

Wa Iria said this after presenting a notice for the meeting to Murang’a police station on Tuesday.

The former Governor said they wanted to deliberate on DP Rigathi Gachagua's claim on "shareholders" in government.

“Gachagua said non-shareholders would only get leftovers. That is why we have organized a meeting for non-shareholders and I will lead the movement. Raila was elected by about 7 million people and another 7 million did not vote. All these people are non-shareholders and are the majority," Wa Iria said.

“This will be a highly engaging meeting for people who have been informed that they are not entitled to the national cake, those who can’t afford medical care or school fees."
