The former presidential candidate will serve in the position for a period of three years.

Former presidential candidate David Mwaure has been appointed as the chairperson of the National Environment Trust Fund Board of Trustees.

In a gazette notice dated April 19, 2023, Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya appointed Mwaure to chair the board for a period of three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 24 (3) of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry appoints David Mwaure Wihiga to be the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 20th April, 2023,” the gazette notice read.

Mwaure unsuccessfully vied for the Presidency during August 9, 2022, general elections under the Agano party. He finished in fourth place behind President William Ruto, Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and Roots party leader George Wajackoyah.

After the results were announced Mwaure came out to acknowledge that President Ruto won the elections fairly.

“Truth be told, we were presidential candidates, we were also at Bomas. We saw the figures rolling down with our naked eyes in favour of President William Ruto, defeating the three of us, hands down.
“We instructed our chief agent to sign last Form C to confirm Ruto’s win, while others refused to,” said Mwaure.
