The family of Controversial Pastor Paul Mackenzie has come out to defend their son over claims he occasioned the deaths of tens of his followers through cultish beliefs.

In a media interview, his younger brother Robert Mbatha Mackenzie described the preacher as a role model, kind and one who cannot commit murder.

He said the offence of killing someone and burying cannot be committed by his brother who he said he has known for years as a good person.

"Lakini kama mimi kivyangu sikubaliani nao kwa sababu brother yangu namjua. Brother yangu hawezi ua mtu na akazika," he said.

Despite Mackenzie advocating against education, Robert revealed that it is pastor Mackenzie who educated him through high school.

As a former congregant of Pastor Mckenzie, Robert says many of his controversial teachings were not mandatory for his followers to heed.

Robert said he fellowshipped at his Good News International Church which he closed in 2019.

"Mackenzie hakubelieve kwa sababu mimi watoto wangu wanasoma na ni ndugu kabisa na yeye huenda hospitali. Sijawahi ona Mackenzie akija hapa amenishikia kiboko ama aniite pale kwake ananiambie nakufunza kila siku lakini hushiki," he said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 90 bodies had been exhumed by detectives from Pastor Mackenzie's 800-acreShakahola  land.

The number of rescued persons so far is 34 and most of them are receiving treatment in Malindi Sub County hospital.
