Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has imposed a 30-day dusk-to-dawn curfew at Chakama Ranch in Shakahola, Kilifi County. 

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has declared Chakama Ranch in Sahakahola, Kilifi County a disturbed area. 

In a statement on Wednesday, April 26, Kindiki imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the ranch for a period of thirty days.

He stated that no public gatherings, processions or movements in and out of the ranch would be allowed during the period.

“Curfew orders have also been declared and Gazetted within the said area between 1800 HRS in the evening up to and until 0600 HRS in the morning for a period of thirty (30) days. There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of curfew into and out of Chakama Ranch except as shall be permitted, in writing, by the Kilifi County Police Commander in consultation with the Operation Commander,” the statement read in part.

Kindiki also stated that the government has set up a public information tracing and support center at the entrance of the ranch.

“The Government has set up a Public Information, Tracing, and Support Centre at the entrance to Chakama Ranch at Shakahola Village, at the turnoff from the Malindi-Sala Gate highway approximately seventy (70) kilometers from Malindi Town,” he added.

This comes after the death toll of the Shakahola cult rose to ninety on Tuesday.
