ODM leader Raila Odinga now claims President William Ruto has encouraged the mushrooming of 'religious cults' in the country.

Addressing the press on Monday, May 1, Odinga sensationally alleged that the 'so-called pastors' helped set up a sanctuary at President Ruto's former Karen residence when he was the deputy president and 'sanctified' State House when he arrived there.

Odinga claimed that the pastors had organized prayer rallies that were attended by Ruto and his deputy Gachagua adding that they contributed to their 2022 campaign.

"The matter of Shakahola and the growth of cultic activities in the Nation, Mr. Ruto is as much a suspect as is all the cult pastors of Shakahola and beyond. He owes the people of Kenya an explanation before he purports to be trying to solve the problem.

"The so-called pastors are people who set up the so-called sanctuary at Ruto's former official residence in Karen. They did not stop there, these pastors proceeded to deliver prophesies and promised miracles about how Ruto would perform as a President," the former Premier said.

President William Ruto.

He added," These so-called pastors were among the people who supposedly sanctified State House when Ruto arrived there pretending to be holier than any other Kenyan. They proceeded to prophesy how great his regime would be."

Pastors Ezekiel Odero and Paul Mackenzie have been arrested in connection with the deaths at Shakahola, Kilifi County.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Monday arrived in Malindi, Kilifi County, to oversee the commencement of post-mortem examinations on 110 bodies so far recovered from the Shakahola forest.

The autopsies will be conducted at the Malindi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary by a team of pathologists led by Government Chief Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor.
