The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has revealed that fifteen police land cruisers escorted Azimio la Umoja leaders during anti-government protests on Tuesday, May 2 in Nairobi.

In a statement via Twitter, the Raila Odinga-led party stated that no one was robbed or harassed during the procession from Kawangware to Kiambu Road.

“We have had a peaceful procession from Kawangware-Kangemi-Waruku-Westlands-Parklands-Muthaiga-Kiambu Rd with full escort of the police in 15 land cruisers. Nobody was robbed. No mama mboga was harassed. Everyone was cheering on and saying how tired they are with the regime,” the ODM party stated.

Azimio lawmakers were earlier teargassed by police officers while seeking to present a petition to the office of the President at Harambee House.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in a statement after the incident complained why the police dispersed the Azimio politicians yet Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had told them to look for him.

“My 50 colleagues and I have been teargassed outside the Office of the President as we marched peacefully to deliver the People’s Petition. Gachagua told us we know where to find them. We do. We went there and instead met Police,” Sifuna tweeted.

A minibus and a lorry were also torched during the Tuesday demos. Photos seen by Nairobi Leo showed the bus burnt into ashes.
