Pastor Ezekiel was arrested on April 27 over allegations of indoctrination of his faithful and having links with Pastor Paul Mackenzie who is behind the alleged deaths of his followers in Shakahola.

Embattled Pastor Ezekiel Odero will spend two nights in custody after a Mombasa Court allowed the police officers to detain the televangelist until Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Shanzu Senior Principle Magistrate Joe Omindo in his ruling on Tuesday, May 2 declined the request by the prosecution to hold Pastor Ezekiel for thirty days.

He directed the police officers to produce Pastor Ezekiel in court again on Thursday this week.

The controversial Pastor had earlier through his lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Danstan Omari filed an affidavit in court seeking to stop the police from detaining him for thirty days.

"Unless this court arrests the delivery of its ruling on whether or not there is a reason to detain Pastor Ezekiel for 30 days, and consider his written affidavit in rebuttal of falsehoods contained in the police affidavit, there will be a miscarriage of justice as the court will not be properly equipped to render a just and well-informed determination," the lawyers stated.
