Controversial pastor Ezekiel Odero was on Thursday, May 4 released on a Ksh3 million bond with an alternative cash bail of Ksh1.5 million.

Detectives had applied to hold Pastor Odero for thirty more days arguing that they had obtained more information that warranted his detention.

However, Shanzu Court Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omido ruled that government did not provide enough evidence to warrant further detention of Mr. Odero.

The Court barred Pastor Ezekiel from making any comments regarding the Shakahola massacre while investigations continue.

This comes barely a day after Court directed the National Police Service (NPS) to reopen televangelist Ezekiel Odero’s New Life International Church in Mavueni, Kilifi County.

“Unless this court intervenes, the respondents will continue issuing illegal directives to not only frustrate the applicant herein but also threaten the very existence of New Life Prayer Center and Church and the projects currently underway.

“Though the allegations against the applicant are unsubstantiated, scandalous and untrue, there has been an increasing extra-judicial interference by the respondents who currently threaten to freeze the church bank accounts, and to unreasonably deny the applicant and his congregation his freedom to religion as decreed under the Constitution,” Omari told the court.
