"The talks must start in earnest by Wednesday. If their delegation is not ready by then, we will treat that gentleman’s agreement as canceled, and implore other options available to us.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has given the Kenya Kwanza government an ultimatum of two days to resume bipartisan talks.

Speaking on Monday May 5 in Nairobi, Raila stated that if the Kenya Kwanza bi-partisan team is not ready by Wednesday, May 10, 2023, he will cancel the negotiations and implore other options.

“We are seeing signs of reluctance from the Kenya Kwanza team and we have given today and tomorrow. The talks must start in earnest by Wednesday. If their delegation is not ready by then, we will treat that gentleman’s agreement as cancelled, and implore other options available to us,” said Raila.

The former Premier claimed that the Ruto camp approached Azimio to call off anti-government demonstration last week and he did so in good faith to give room for negotiations.

“We acted in good faith to call off the demonstrations last Thursday because Kenya Kwanza approached us and said that they were ready for talks and that they are going to remove Adan Keynan whom they had put in among their delegates.

“We knew the real reason they did that is because visitors were coming to town and they did not want demonstrations at that time,” Raila added.

The opposition chief suspended the anti-government protests on Wednesday, May 3 after the Kenya Kwanza camp recused Keynan from their bi-partisan team.

The bipartisan committee had last month reached a stalemate over the involvement of the Jubilee MP in the negotiations.
