Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha confirmed the discoveries of the bodies.

As exhumation continues in Shakahola Forest in Kilifi County, police have discovered 21 more bodies bringing the total number of victims to 133.

Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha confirmed to the press that the additional bodies were discovered in the second phase of exhumation.

The exhumation of the body followed the arrest of controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie who is accused of radicalising his followers and teaching them to fast to death for them to "meet Jesus".

Onyancha at the same time said they rescued an additional five people.

The rescue of the five brings the total of those saved to 68.

“We have a number of things going on, there are search and rescue teams that are working day and night. We have investigations going on and of course, we have phase two of exhumations which began on Tuesday,” she said.

As of Wednesday, Police said 566 people have reported their relatives are missing with most of them citing links to Pastor Mackenzie.

“Even as we take people to the hospital and for psychosocial, support because that is what is majorly going on, we have been able to reunite 14 victims to their families so far,” she said.

Onyancha made the revelations during a press briefing on the progress of the exhumation.
