Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sensationally claimed that there was a plot to assassinate Interior CS before President William Ruto was announced the winner of the August 9, 2022 polls.

Gachagua who was addressing ta gathering during the launch of CS Aden Duale's book at Serena Hotel on Thursday did not however reveal who was behind the plot.

He was making the remarks while detailing how President William Ruto's side battled opposition from the regime of former President Uhuru Kenyatta as they ascended to the top seat.

It is while acknowledging the president's move to reward his allies who stood with him that he said Kindiki risked his life but luckily got rewarded with a plum job.

"A man who I don't know whether he will write in his book that he was almost assassinated on August 14 is today the Minister of Interior - Professor Kithure Kindiki," he said.

The launch of CS Duale's book which has chapters detailing betrayal in their ties with former president Uhuru was attended by key dignitaries in President Ruto's government.

They include Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, DP Gachagua, and President Ruto.

Most of the speakers rekindled how they suffered in supporting Ruto but at the same time thanked the president for rewarding them.

Ruto in his speech lauded the book describing it as a masterpiece that tells a story worth to be read by many generations to come.

"This is not just a book about politics and politicians, it is the story of a man and his life in public service, a story that is forged in the heat of Garissa Town and deep lifelong faith in Kenya and Allah," Ruto said.

"For The Record is a story of faith, public service, leadership and a desire to change lives, especially in northern Kenya. It provides remarkable access to major political events and political personalities."
