President William Ruto has nominated Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

President William Ruto has nominated Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

In a statement to newsrooms on Tuesday, May 16 signed by the Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff, Felix Koskei, Haji will return to the NIS after a six-year tenure as the DPP.  

"Consequently, it is notified that Excellency the President has, In accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Noordin Hajl, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service," part of the statement reads. 

Mr. Haji served as the deputy director of the counter organised crime unit within the National Intelligence Service United (NIS).

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Master of Laws (LL.M) degrees from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

He also holds a second Masters Degree in National Security Policy with Merit (MNSPO) from the Australian National University.

Haji will now take over from Major General Philip Wachira Kameru, the outgoing Director General, heading for retirement. 

Major General Kameru was appointed as Director-General in September 2014 after an illustrious military career.
