"It will be difficult to fill his shoes. But Haji should bring his own shoes instead."

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has weighed into the appointment of Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji as the Director General of the National Intelligence Service.

Ngunyi in a tweet congratulated haji for his new role saying even though he is taking over from Kenya's finest spy, he should aim at building his legacy.

"Congratulations to Noordin Haji on your appointment as DG for NIS. He was seconded to ODPP from NIS as a consummate Spy. Haji is taking over from General Kameru, one of our finest soldiers and spies. It will be difficult to fill his shoes. But Haji should bring his own shoes instead," he said.

President William Ruto nominated Haji for the role on Tuesday ahead of Philip Kameru's retirement.

"Consequently, it is notified that Excellency the President has, In accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Noordin Hajl, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service," Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said in a notification.

Haji's name has been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and later appointment if approved.

Haji has served as Director of Public Prosecutions for Six years.

Before being the DPP, he served as Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service.

Haji holds a Bachelor of Law and Masters degree from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

He holds a second Masters Degree in National Security Policy with Merit (MNSPO) from the Australian National University.

Haji was admitted to the Bar in 1999 and thereafter joined the Public Service in January 2000, working at the Attorney General's Office.
