Why Meru Deputy Governor's Vehicle Was Taken Away

Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza and her deputy Isaac Mutuma are reported not to be in good terms despite their camaraderie in the recent past.

The deputy governor is said to have been aggrieved after his trip to a foreign country was not okayed by the county.

Beside the trip, Mutuma is also said to have taken offence at the county administration for taking one of his official vehicles.

To express his frustration, the county deputy boss reportedly snubbed a cabinet meeting presided over by Mwangaza.

This did not sit well with the county's top brass which came out to issue a statement on it.

County secretary Kiambi Athiru faulted Mutuma for absconding some of his duties which includes attending meetings.

Athiru however clarified that the seizure of the deputy governor's vehicle was not done in bad faith.

He said one vehicle was taken away after being found to be misused by Mutuma.

His official vehicle(s) is still with him, the county secretary stated.

"No vehicle of the deputy governor was taken away from him expect one that was related to his normal day to day issues, not his official car. 

"The other vehicle was being misused and therefore taken for a while as we continue with investigations into the driver and his conduct," said Athiru.

If it escalates, this would be another phase of leadership wrangles in the county months after the governor faced off with the ward representatives.

The battle culminated in Mwangaza's ouster after the MCAs voted to remove her from office on grounds of abuse of office and gross misconduct.

Mwangaza had been accused of incorporating her husband Murega Baichu into the affairs of the county thus connoting nepotism.

Her lifeline would be in the Senate committee that absolved her of any wrongdoing.

The governor then made up with the MCAs and have since then cooperated.
