The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has asked for the registration details of a matatu whose female tout was filmed dragging a passenger out of the vehicle.

Reacting to a social media post that had the video on Twitter on Saturday morning, NTSA said:

"Kindly share with us the registration number of the vehicle."

The video had gone viral on social media with Kenyans calling for action from authorities.

The video captured the female tout forcefully dragging the female passenger out of the matatu even as she maintained that she had paid the fare.

The tout pushed the passenger to the ground even as a police officer who was standing next to the door of the matatu watches without doing anything.

The incident has sparked uproar on social media with Kenyans expressing their disappointment on the matter.

It is unclear why the tout had to push the woman out of the matatu and where the incident happened.

The incident is coming hot on the heels of the NTSA crackdown on matatus violating basic operations standards including handling of passengers.

Early in May, a passenger died after he was reportedly pushed from a moving Matatu on Outering Road.

The incident involving Embassava Sacco saw the tout arrested.

Kenyans have intensified calls to have matatu operators vetted to weed out togue members.
