This comes weeks after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula gave the Azimio coalition a period of thirty days to replace Sabina Chege.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance has resolved to have Embakasi East Member of Parliament Mark Mwenje replace Nominated MP Sabina Chege as the National Assembly Minority Deputy Whip.

Speaking on Tuesday May 30 at the Azimio la Umoja Parliamentray Group meeting, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi expressed confidence that Mwenje will prove that he is equal to the task.

“Azimio has today settled on Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje as the National Assembly Deputy Minority Whip. Mwenje will be taking up the position that was left vacant upon the removal of Sabina Chege.

“We recognize Mwenje as a committed, consistent, energetic and youthful fighter who has shown the way to stand up for the people and party, we have no doubt that he will prove equal to the task,” Wandayi stated.

This comes weeks after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula gave the Azimio coalition a period of thirty days to replace Chege.

This is after Azimio demanded for her ouster from the house leadership but failed to name her replacement.

“The communication received from the minority party with regard to the replacement of Sabina Chege as the Deputy Minority Whip is incomplete and therefore does not comply with the requirements of standing order 20 (A) of the National Assembly standing orders,” Wetangula stated.

“I hereby grant the Minority party a period of thirty days from today within which to convey appropriate communication of the replacement of its minority whip if it wishes.”
