Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked governors to be cautious about opposing the Finance Bill 2023.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says that governors should be cautious about opposing the controversial Finance Bill 2023.

Speaking on Monday, June 5 after meeting governors during the Intergovernmental Budget Economic Council (IBEC) meeting in Karen, Gachagua asked the county bosses to appreciate the national government’s intervention in collecting more taxes.

The second in command warned the governors who are against the Finance Bill 2023, saying that if the government fails to collect enough revenue, counties will be affected as there will be no money for disbursement.

“I have asked Governors to consider and appreciate that they are in the same boat with the national government in matters of revenue collection and if we don’t collect enough revenue there will be no money available for to the country governments,” said Gachagua.

He added, “We have requested them even as others criticize the measures that have been taken in the Finance Bill 2023, the governors should be cautious about joining the choir because if we don’t collect enough revenue they are the ones who will have a problem because there will be no money for disbursement.”
