"How they lost the war on Finance Bill 2023 is how they lost the Supreme Court battle. Too much drama, no substance."

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has come out to chide Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance after losing a parliamentary vote on the Finance Bill 2023.

In a tweet, after the government marshalled 176 votes to have the bill sail through against Azimio's 81, Ngunyi said it is an embarrassment that the opposition could not whip even 100 MPs.

"The defeat of Azimio in this #FinanceBill2023 is an embarrassment to our national imagination. They could not even raise a bi-partisan consensus of 100 MPs," Ngunyi tweeted.

"Ruto had twice the number of MPs at 176/81. What a shame! And what is the point of being on the wrong side of history? It's over."

Ngunyi went on to call out the coalition saying they have a penchant for making too much noise while lacking substance at the same time.

He said the performance at the National Assembly can be equated with that of the Supreme Court of Kenya.

"Azimio is full of Razzmatazz and Walhalla. "...Too much fury, signifying nothing". How they lost the war on Finance Bill 2023 is how they lost the Supreme Court battle. Too much drama, no substance."

MPs on Wednesday voted in favour of the Finance Bill 2023. This now paves the way for its determination by the committee of the whole House.

The voting was preceded by an intense debate in Parliament to discuss the proposed tax measures.

176 MPs voted to endorse at the second reading stage while 81 MPs opposed.

The Bill now moves to the committee of the whole House where members will have a chance to push through their amendments.

The Committee will consider the Bill clause by clause and take a vote on each of the clauses.
