Acting Nairobi Governor Benson Mutura has re-appointed a County Executive Committee (CeC) member who resigned during ex-governor Mike Sonko’s tenure.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Mutura noted that Janet Ouko had been re-appointed the CeC in charge of Education, Youth and Social Services.

Following Ouko’s re-appointment the current education CeC Lucia Mulwa was re-assigned to the Agriculture, Fisheries

“I wish to thank you most sincerely for the opportunity to serve in your government as an executive committee member. I hereby tender my resignation effective January 31, 2019… I have decided to resign so I can seek other opportunities. It has been a wonderful one year and two months and I would now like to pursue other interests that will grow my career and help my personal development,” she said in a letter to then-governor Mike Sonko. 

Meanwhile, Governor Mutura also announced that Jarius Musumba has been appointed the new Acting County Secretary, while Paul Mutungi has been appointed the new Chief of Staff.

Nairobi politician Brian Weke has been appointed as Legal Advisor in the Office of the Governor.

“In line with the powers bestowed upon me by the Constitution and County Government Act 2012 and in order to support efficient County functions, I have made the appointments and re-alignment for efficient service delivery,” Mutura’s statement read in part.

The appointment comes a few weeks after Mutura was sworn-in as the acting Nairobi Governor following a Senate decision to uphold Sonko’s impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly.
