"We want to ask leaders in this country to join Moses Kuria to hold the press to account.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked the media to get used to receiving criticism when they report wrongly.

Speaking on Friday, June 23 during the 40th graduation ceremony of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Gachagua told the media that the conditions have changed and they will now be criticized the same way they criticized the political class.

“They have criticized the political class for so many years and we took the criticism in straight and we agreed that they had to hold us to account but things have changed. Now we are also saying that somebody needs to hold the media to account for the things they write, so welcome to the world of Moses Kiarie Kuria because no situation is permanent, “said Gachagua.

The second in command asked politicians to join Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria in holding the media into account saying he is happy with how the press reacted to Kuria’s remarks.

“I am so happy the way the media has reacted to criticism, it's good you are feeling the way we feel, you have been hitting us left right, and center nobody has ever held you to account. Moses Kuria has asked you three questions only and you are crying all over you have seen nothing we want to ask leaders in this country to join Moses Kuria to hold the press to account,” he stated.

Gachagua further asked the courts to restrain the media when politicians request them the same way they barred CS Kuria from insulting the media.

“The same way the courts have been persuaded to gag Moses Kuria from holding the press into account, I want the same courts to give the same orders when asked to restrain the media, “he added.

This comes after the High Court on Wednesday barred CS Kuria from using insulting words on any media practitioner.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued the order following an application filed by human rights defender Charles Mugane.
