Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has divulged that the naming of the cabinet by President William Ruto left him with some worries of sorts after he gave the Ukambani region two cabinet slots.

Speaking in Kitui Sunday at a church service, Gachagua said he nearly disagreed with Ruto because of the move saying the region did little for them to deserve two cabinet slots.

"Mimi karibu nikosane na Rais wetu juu yenu. Anagawa serikali kwenu na kura hapa ni kidogo. Foreign affairs amepatia Mutua, amechukua Peninah amempatia. Nikamuuliza hawa watu umewapatia na hakuna kura. Akaniambia Wakamba wananipenda lakini viongozi wao ndio wanawapoteza. Nitakaa nao mpaka wanipende," the DP said.

The region overwhelmingly voted for Raila in the 2022 elections. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka led the campaigns in drumming up support for Raila.

Gachagua further asked the Ukambani leaders to unite and join the government in delivering development projects and services to the people of Kenya.

The DP however questioned Kalonzo's stand saying it has become difficult to understand him.

"Governor Wavinya Ndeti, we have no problem with Kalonzo, We are waiting for him. It is you who will decide what you want with him because we don't understand him.

"We looked for him, and asked him to join us but he went back to Raila Odinga. Even the day he was ashamed of being subjected to the running mate interview it is we who defended him. We don't know why he is confused," the DP said. The DP said they have no problem with Kalonzo and that they are always ready to work with him.
