The Londiani accident claimed the lives of 52 people while 32 others are in hospital nursing injuries. 

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that the Londiani truck driver was driving at high speed before causing the deadly accident at Londiani Junction in Kericho County.

Speaking on Saturday, July 1 during the Thanksgiving ceremony of National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Murkomen stated that the truck hit a bump before the cabin and trailer were disjointed.

“Ukiona hii ya Londiani your excellency, lorry yenye inatoka huko Rwanda imeshachukua mzigo inarudi kwenda Rwanda imefika hapo Londiani, hatujafanya uchunguzi tujue exactly what happened lakini ameenda na speed na kugonga bump yenye iko next to the shopping areas, kichwa imekatika, trailer ikaenda upande ule ikagonga whole market pamoja na watu walikua hapo,” Murkomen revealed.

The Transport CS noted that fifty-two people have lost their lives due to the accident with thirty-two others nursing injuries in hospitals.

“We lost 52 lives at go yesterday followed by another 32 who are in hospital and some are having very serious injuries,” said Murkomen.

The former Elgeyo Marakwet senator proposed that all markers and bus stops near highways be relocated to avoid similar accidents from repeating in the future.

“Your excellency with your support and the support of county governments under inter-governmental frame work, I request that all markets and bus stops along highways be relocated,” he added.
