Maweu who was arrested on May 2 has spent 62 days in police custody.

Suspected cult leader Paul Mackenzie's wife Rhoda Maweu has been released on a Sh100,000 personal bond and an additional Sh500,000 surety bond.

Maweu who was arrested on May 2 has spent 62 days in police custody.

Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda while setting her free said the state failed to produce sufficient evidence why she was being held alongside her husband and 28 others linked to Shakahola's deaths.

Shikanda however handed MacKenzie a blow after he gave him an additional 30 days in police custody.

Preacher Paul MacKenzie and his co-accused are to remain in custody for 30 more days.

16 other co-accused persons, who had been arraigned alongside MacKenzie will also remain in police custody.

This applies to suspects who were arraigned between April 15 and May 2.

11 other suspects who were presented in court on June 3 will only spend three additional days in police custody.

This comes as the exhumation of bodies at Shakahola is yet to come to an end.

Over 400 bodies have been exhumed from the forest.

The victims are said to have heeded calls by Preacher Mackenzie to fast in order to meet Jesus.

Most of the victims are said to have gone for days without food leading to their deaths.
