Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei said they will enforce the law in taming street protests.

Police have arrested Several people in the Nairobi Business District on suspicion that they could be hatching a plot to kick off Saba Saba protests called by the Azimio coalition. 

Those arrested were whisked into standby police vehicles and taken to various police stations in the City.

Among those who were put in custody are those found along Harambee Avenue which hosts the office of the President and that of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Both plainclothes and uniformed police officers have been deployed in the streets.

Police had earlier said Azimio will be allowed to exercise their democratic rights but said they will not be allowed to conduct street protests.

"We have permitted the Azimio Coalition to hold their rally only at Kamkunji Grounds. They are required to exercise their rights according to the law. Otherwise, street protests won't be allowed," Bungei said.

Police have been deployed in various streets of Nairobi en mass to tame the possibility of a street protest erupting.

ODM leader Raila Odinga and a host of the Azimio coalition are expected to lead mass protests against President William Ruto's regime.

Nairobi county ODM chairman George Aladwa on Thursday said all is set for the Friday Saba Saba rally.

They said the opposition brigade will march to the city centre in fresh anti-government protests.

Aladwa addressed a joint press conference alongside MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Antony Oluoch (Mathare), Peter Orero (Kibra) and a host of city MCAs.
