Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has sensationally claimed that President William Ruto convened a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting at State House over the weekend after senior police officers allegedly chose to ignore Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki’s directive.

Speaking on Monday, July 17 during a press briefing at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, Sifuna claimed that during the meeting President Ruto asked MPs to mobilize supporters to come out on protests again Azimio on Wednesday.

“We have received intelligence that senior Police officers have chosen to ignore the illegal directive that was given by CS Kithure Kindiki for police officers to shoot protestors and that is the reason why the President convened a PG because he knows the police will not do his dirty work,” Sifuna claimed.

He added, “He has now told his MPs to mobilize people in their constituencies to come and harm protestors.”

The ODM senator appealed to Kenyans not to turn against each other saying the government is to blame for the high cost of living.

“We want to tell those who might be mobilized to come and fight your fellow Kenyans that we are not the enemy, we are not the ones who have added taxation of fuel… you cannot come and fight your fellow hustlers in the streets,” said Sifuna.

This comes after Wiper Party leader  Kalonzo Musyoka warned the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome against brutality on anti-government protestors.

Speaking on Sunday, July 16, Kalonzo threatened to file a criminal case against Koome at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"The right to picket is enshrined in the constitution, the only condition ni usibebe silaha. There is a higher court which sits at the Hague and the rules of engagement are very clear, that a person, or persons bearing the highest responsibility Ikiwa ni polisi ambao wanaua watu kama swara, yule ambaye atakuwa responsible ni IG of police," Kalonzo stated.
